About Rick Christian

b. Derek Watson, 22 September 1951, Romford, Essex, England. In the early 70s singer-songwriter Christian, like a great number of folk musicians, started out doing the rounds of ‘floor spots’ throughout the country, as well as busking regularly. Having moved from folk into rock and country groups, he returned to playing folk clubs in 1982, releasing his first album, Reason Enough, the following year. Christian quickly established himself in the south-east, and during the 80s, in addition to performing, moved into presenting a folk programme for BBC local radio. Since then he has widened his involvement by promoting folk music at many different levels, running folk clubs, festivals, and actively pursuing coverage of folk material in the media. He found the time for a second release, Looking For Signs, in 1990. This received good reviews both at home and abroad, and gained a good deal of airplay. During the 90s he also played with the harmony group the Open Road and released his third album, These Things Happen. In addition to writing and researching on the subject of folk music, he currently plays throughout the UK, and occasionally in Europe.
