Man Is the Bastard

About Man Is the Bastard

Man Is the Bastard formed in Claremont, California, in 1991. In their song “HSMP” the band coined the term “power violence,” which would become the tag of their subgenre of hardcore punk. With an attack of dual bass guitars and machine-gun drumming paired with barked vocals, the band produced a sound much sludgier than many of their speedier “power violence” contemporaries and followers. Man Is the Bastard also set themselves apart with their use of experimental noise on some of their tracks. They disbanded in 1997, with members going to form Bastard Noise and also the experimental folk band Amps for Christ.
