Rosa Marya Colin's earliest artistic performances were at Rádio Tupi and Rádio Mayrink Veiga (Rio de Janeiro), singing also jazz and bossa nova in the historic Beco das Garrafas. Her first LP was launched in 1965, Uma Rosa com Bossa, which drew the attention of critics over her work. Having worked as an actress in the theater, cinema and TV (in the musicals Hair, Paixão de Drácula and Presença de Vinícius, in the soap opera Escrava Anastácia, from TV Manchete and in the film Compasso de Espera, by Antunes Filho), in 1971 she performed in Mexico as a singer and, from 1974 to 1978, she performed with the Traditional Jazz Band at the Opus 2004 club (São Paulo). From 1975 to 1980 she participated in diverse projects like the Canto da Terra (São Paulo), Seis e Meia, Pixinguinha (sided by Luís Melodia), Acorde (São Paulo), Festival das Mulheres nas Artes (Women in Arts Festival) and Festival do Disco (Rio Grande do Sul). In 1981 she performed with success at the Jazz and Blues club (Los Angeles CA) and at the Le Chansonier (Paris, France). Two years later, with Célia and Míriam Batucada, she realized the show Força, at the Procópio Ferreira theater (São Paulo). Also in 1983 she participated in the Brazilian Week in Venice (Italy). In 1987 she was awarded as the Best Interpreter in the XIV Festival Nacional e Internacional de Intérpretes de La Canción, Buga, Colombia (National and International Interpreters' Festival). In the next year she had her biggest success with her re-recording of "California Dreamin'", a The Mamas and The Papas hit. In 1990 she toured Brazil with her show Rosa in Blues. Two years later she performed in the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts and at the Ballroom (New York NY). For his participation in Edu Lobo's Rá-Tim-Bum she was awarded with the Sharp prize. In 1993, her 18 performances at the Ballroom (New York NY) had good reviews at the New York Times, and in the next year she performed in Chicago, New York and Brazil, where she appeared in the TV special Retrato de Mulher (TV Globo). In 1996, having participated in the musical Viva Elvis, Colyn toured Brazil with the show Uma Rosa na Asa do Vento, and in the next year she worked in the musical Cabaret Brasil (by Wolf Maia/Cininha de Paula). Her interpretation for "Brida" was adopted as the opening theme of TV Manchete's homonymous soap opera (1998), and in the same year she toured Brazil with the show Cores. ~ Alvaro Neder
