About Psychedelic Horseshit

Mixing the influences of '90s lo-fi indie rock, late-'70s post-punk's more avant side, and outright eccentricity à la Half Japanese, the colorfully (and somewhat misleadingly) named Psychedelic Horseshit roared out of Columbus, Ohio with their 2007 debut album, Magic Flowers Droned. Led by singer/guitarist Matt Whitehurst, the band makes a fuzzy, swirling cacophony that usually stays on just the right side of song structure while allowing for a freewheeling, anything-goes approach to recording. The band was initially regarded as the “little brother” of onetime labelmates Times New Viking, but nevertheless began to develop an audience on its own terms. ~ Jim Allen
