Essential Albums
- Irreplaceable Love is the last album Commissioned made with Marvin Sapp, who has become a gospel heavyweight in his own right. More significantly, it marks a near-perfect intersection of sanctified lyrics with silky R&B harmonies; contemporary gospel doesn’t get much smoother than this. It also doesn’t get much more empowering: “No Weapon” is a song of strength in Christ, “Irreplaceable Love” shows how God meets our needs, and “Crucified With Christ” exhorts us to “count it all joy” until we “make it through the storm.”

About Commissioned
An urban Black gospel band with crossover appeal, Commissioned are an extremely evangelistic group in concert who put on such a dramatic show that the altars are routinely packed with repenters following their performances. Members Fred Hammond, Keith Staten, Michael Brooks and Marvin Sapp have all done many successful solo projects as well. They spent most of the '90s pursuing those careers, but found themselves back together in 2001 for a reunion tour and the first of another successful series of albums. ~ Bil Carpenter
