About Evelyn Rubio

Evelyn Rubio is a vocalist, saxophonist, and charting recording artist whose singing melds classic and modern soul with jump blues and swing in both English and Spanish, while adding a modern pop-soul sensibility. Rubio was born and raised in Mexico City. She began her show business career at age nine and won a role in the television series My Little Stars. At 15 she was fronting rock and blues bands in Mexico City, and at 19 she began studying the saxophone and writing songs. Her debut album, Evelyn Automarginados, was issued in 1999. In 2004 she landed the role of Mary Magdalene in a Canadian production of Jesus Christ Superstar. A year later she immigrated to Houston, Texas. She met Calvin Owens and shortly thereafter signed a multi-year contract as lead vocalist and saxophone soloist with Calvin Owens & His Blues Orchestra.
