About R C Bannon

b. Daniel Shipley, 2 May 1945, Dallas, Texas, USA. Bannon sang in a church choir when young, and then worked numerous clubs in Texas in rock and soul bands. In 1968, while working as a disc jockey for a radio station in Seattle, he took the name R.C. Bannon, based on the product RC Cola. In 1973 Bannon opened for Marty Robbins but the solo records he subsequently made for Capitol Records were unsuccessful. He moved to Nashville in 1976 and secured a publishing contract with Warner Brothers Music. He wrote the US country hits ‘Only One Love In My Life’ (a number 1 for Ronnie Milsap) and ‘Women Get Lonely’ (Charly McClain). His R.C. Bannon Arrives had sleeve-notes by Robbins, and he had a US country chart entry with ‘Somebody’s Gonna Do It Tonight’. He married Louise Mandrell in February 1979 and their duets include ‘Reunited’, ‘We Love Each Other’ and ‘Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire’. He worked on arrangements for the US television series Barbara Mandrell And The Mandrell Sisters, and wrote Barbara’s 1983 US country number 1, ‘One Of A Kind Pair Of Fools’.
