About Byron Au Yong
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My single mother worked the night shift. When the house was quiet and the curtains drawn, I went outside to play with stones and twigs. As the only child of divorced immigrant parents, my play turned to singing and staging stories underneath trees. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Dominic Seldis, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Tan Dun, Tan Dun: The Wolf (Live) - EP Ryuichi Sakamoto, Various Artists, A Tribute to Ryuichi Sakamoto - To the Moon and Back Various Artists, Japan: The Spirit of Water Nature informs my music. For favorite albums I choose music with melodic and surprising sounds by Tan Dun, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Toru Takemitsu. These composers paved novel sonic pathways I initially follow, before forging my own way.
