Boasting blonde good looks, a powerful voice, impressive instrumental skills and attitude to spare, Katie Kerkhover is an artist making a rebellious name for herself on the Deep South's rock scene. Kerkhover hails from Rockford, Illinois, where she began taking music lessons when she was just four years old; while studying violin using the Suzuki method, she began playing bluegrass fiddle tunes and fell in love with the style. By the age of eleven, she'd recorded her first album as a fiddler and vocalist, and by fifteen she was fronting a bluegrass combo, Rockwood Junction, and playing festivals throughout the South and Midwest. At age 17, Kerkhover struck out on her own and moved to Nashville, where she put her skills to work playing fiddle with a number of mainstream country acts; she toured with Sara Evans, Billy Currington and Rebecca Lynn Howard and did session work. However, by this time Kerkhover had developed a taste for rock & roll, citing Metallica, Guns ‘n Roses, Blink 182 and No Doubt as significant early influences. Kerkhover had already taught herself to play guitar, and began making her way into Nashville's rock scene. Giving herself a musical makeover, Kerkhover started playing rock clubs and making a name for herself outside country circles; she struck up a friendship with guitarist, songwriter and producer Tim Craven, and together they began working on material to suit her new style. In 2009, Kerkhover released her first rock album, Blister, which was distributed independently through several on-line music merchants. ~ Mark Deming
