About Natalie Imbruglia

Australian pop singer and actress Natalie Imbruglia became an international sensation with her breakthrough hit “Torn” in 1997. • Imbruglia got her start acting on the Australian soap Neighbours before moving from Sydney to London to pursue a singing career. • She recorded “Torn”—originally performed by the band Ednaswap—for her 1997 debut album, Left of the Middle. Her cover spent 11 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart and hit the Top 10 in 21 other countries. • In the UK, “Torn” sold more than a million copies and was the most played song of the ’90s. At one point, “Torn” was averaging 75 spins per day on the radio in Imbruglia’s native Australia. • “Torn” also earned Imbruglia a Grammy nomination in the US for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. (She was also nominated for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album.) • Her second album, 2001’s White Lilies Island, wasn’t as commercially successful. Though the LP debuted at No. 3 in Australia, and No. 15 in the UK, it quickly slid down the charts. • After disappointing sales of her next two albums, Imbruglia took a six-year break from music and returned to acting, appearing in three movies: Closed for Winter (2009), Underdogs (2013), and Among Ravens (2014). • Imbruglia returned to music in 2015 with Male, an album of cover songs originally sung by men, including Death Cab for Cutie, Daft Punk, and Pete Townshend.
