About Maybrick

Formed while attending York University in Toronto, Maybrick had an eclectic and wide range of influences from British pop to heavy metal. In 1996, the group began composing songs and booking their own gigs around Toronto, with their first show performed at the legendary El Mocambo in Toronto. In 1997, Maybrick entered the studio to start working on their debut release. In 1998, White Noise garnered a lot of acclaim and praise on the local and college circuits. The band opened for groups such as Swervedriver and Slowburn and were becoming popular. But one of the founding members, Kristin Maling, left the band to pursue a graphic design career. Maling was replaced by Dan Mathers. In 1999, after a string of injuries and misfortunes, Maybrick began deliberate work on their second album. In 2001, the group returned to the studio to release the appropriately titled Breakuptheband, which was released in May 2002. Maybrick played at industry showcases such as Canada Music Week and North by Northeast Festival. The band has performed in Ontario as well as other parts of Canada. ~ Jason MacNeil
