Steelwind

About Steelwind

Folksinger Jack Traylor formed this group at the end of the 60s. By 1973 it consisted of Diana Harris (vocals/piano), Craig Chaquico (lead guitar; ex-Soma), Skip Moriarty (guitar/flute/vocals), Danny Virdier (bass) and Rick Quintanal (drums). Steelwind were closely associated with Jefferson Airplane and its side-projects for which Traylor had occasionally provided material. A Child Of Nature was issued on the Airplane’s Grunt label. The set comprised of acoustically-based songs, many of which dealt with ecological and social themes. It successfully evoked the atmosphere and spirit prevailing in the city’s music of the 60s. Steelwind broke up soon afterwards when Chaquico joined Jefferson Starship.
