About Buffseeds

Exeter, Devon, England-based indie rock outfit formed in 1999 by Kieran Scragg (vocals/guitar) and his cousin Joel Scragg (bass), with Ella Lewis (drums) added to the line-up shortly afterwards. The trio began playing gigs around Exeter before releasing the seven-track Airborne EP on their own Pixel Records label. Neil Reed (keyboards) was added to the line-up in the new millennium, helping give an added weight to the band’s music, which too often wilted under the sheer power of Kieran Scragg’s vocals. The quartet signed a recording contract with Fantastic Plastic and made their debut for the label in December 2001 with the 7-inch single ‘Casino’. They recorded The Picture Show with experienced producers Michael Brauer and Chris Sheldon, completing work in late 2002 and finally releasing the album the following March. Featuring some memorable melodies and the trademark soaring vocals of chief songwriter Kieran Scragg, the album marked the Buffseeds out as one of the year’s most notable new acts.
