b. Jonathan Barr, England. After training at the Sylvia Young Theatre School, Barr made his theatrical debut in a West End production of Oliver! Subsequently, he played roles in several revivals and some new productions in London, in other UK cities, and on provincial tours. These include appearances through the 80s in Jesus Christ Superstar, Annie, Sweeney Todd, a musical version of Treasure Island, and Les Misérables in the West End in 1988. He had a small role in the original cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects Of Love (1989). He was in the original cast of The Wonderful West End (1990) and in the early 90s he appeared in a Kurt Weill revue, Berlin To Broadway, John Kander and Fred Ebb’s Flora The Red Menace, In The Midnight Hour, Snoopy-The Musical, playing the title role, and Oscar, appearing on the recording of the latter. He was also on a 1992 studio recording of Godspell, Tom Jones’ Matador, and the original cast recordings of Aspects Of Love and of The Happy Prince. In 1994, Barr played in cabaret in Washington, DC, and two years later made his own-name record debut. This was followed by an extended US cabaret tour. On BBC Radio 2 in the mid-90s he appeared in a series of shows including Jesus Christ Superstar, Kiss Me, Kate, A Chorus Line and Fiddler On The Roof. In the late 90s and early 00s, he was on UK and international tours by Opera Della Luna, including The Mikado, The Merry Widow and HMS Pinafore. Also in the early 00s he played cabaret in Australia and at several leading London venues, on prestigious cruise liners, and was in the West End production of Ragtime (2003). Additionally, since the 80s Barr has played regularly in pantomime and has appeared in straight acting roles on television.
