About Staffan Linzatti

Swedish producer Staffan Linzatti trades in a kind of dry, minimal, hypnotic techno heavily inspired by the classic Detroit sound, but with a contemporary twist. His debut album, The Dynamic Dispatch, was released by Field Records in 2017. Linzatti was born and brought up in Eskilstuna, a medium-sized industrial city in southern Sweden about 70 miles west of Stockholm. With no electronic scene to speak of, his primary exposure to the music came from his brother Matthias, with whom he would go on to work very closely. He started out making tracks on his computer and learning to DJ; later, after they both left school, they moved to Gothenburg, where they at last found a scene of like-minded people, clubs, and record shops. Linzatti's first 12" release was a collaboration with John Dahlbäck, the housey, club-ready banger "Outside," released by Pickadoll Records in 2005. More single releases followed on labels such as Rrygular, Synewave, and Stockholm Ltd., in which he gradually developed a more minimalist, Detroit-influenced sound. With a Zen-like creative process that saw him derive inspiration from sources as disparate as architecture and sneakers, he constantly strove to push his limits and create new sonic structures. He and his brother continued to work closely, writing music together as Decoy Linzatti (notably the track "Quibble" from the "Timber Owls" EP). In 2011 they launched their own label, Searchlights, with Staffan's "Assembler." Linzatti collaborated with the likes of Pär Grindvik and Arnaud Le Texier, and continued to release EPs on labels like Balans, Chronicle, and Field, which put out his debut album, the triple-LP The Dynamic Dispatch in 2017. ~ John D.
