June Tyson

About June Tyson

Until her 1992 passing, dancer, and jazz vocalist (also occasional violinist) June Tyson was famous as being one of the few consistent female presences in the musical universe of the avant-garde jazz pianist/bandleader Sun Ra. From about 1970 on, Tyson gave voice to her own and Ra’s extraterrestrial-concept poetry and lyrics. And like many Ra stalwarts, virtually her entire discography is with his Arkestra.
