Luiz Millan

About Luiz Millan

Luíz Millán is a Brazilian singer, composer, and pianist whose music straddles bossa nova, samba, and jazz. A formally trained musician since age four, he pursued medicine academically. He earned a medical degree in 1982 and worked at the University of São Paulo's medical school for 28 years before pursuing music. He recorded his debut Entre Nuvens for the Brazilian giant Tratore in 2011 and followed with O Dia Em Que São Paulo Floresceu in 2014. The privately issued Dois Por Dois, in collaboration with composer Moacyr Zwarg, appeared in 2016, and the more formally jazz-oriented Achados & Perdidos arrived in 2020. In April 2023, Millán released Brazilian Match for producer Arnaldo DeSouteiro's Jazz Station Records label. DeSouteiro and arranger Michel Freidensen hired a large cast of musicians and vocalists from North America, Brazil, and Europe, including David Sanborn, Ada Rovatti, Randy Brecker, Eddie Daniels, and Mike Mainieri.
