Writhing Squares

Philly duo the Writhing Squares create a warped reading on spaced-out psych rock using grizzly basslines and minimal drum-machine pulses as a foundation for layers of sax, delayed vocals, and other waves of deranged sounds. The band have issued albums on revered indie labels like Siltbreeze and Trouble in Mind, and they often draw comparisons to space rock legends like Hawkwind or the more amped-up fringes of Krautrock. After a series of raw early recordings, they took their sound to more adventurous and cosmic places on releases like the 2021 double album Chart for the Solution and their fourth LP, 2024's Mythology.
