About Holstuonarmusigbigbandclub

The Austrian band Holstuonarmusigbigbandclub (Holstuonar or HMBC for short) was founded in 2003 by five students from Vorarlberg Music College, who mixed folk music with modern pop and some jazz, hip-hop, and reggae elements. After their first two albums, Querschlager ("Cross-Hit") in 2007 and Free Sin in 2008, the group celebrated a great success with the song "Vo Mello bis ge Schoppornou" ("From Mellau up to Schoppernau") in 2010: the song spent a total of 33 weeks on the Austrian charts, peaking at number two, and the accompanying YouTube video managed over a million views. This was followed in 2011 by the band's third album, Lieble, which contained all-original compositions for the first time; it reached number 12 in the charts and included the comical single "What Happened to the Edelweiß I Gave You Last Night?" In 2012 they released the live album Grüsele Live; also that year, the group won -- for "Vo Mello" -- the Amadeus Austrian Music Award for Song of the Year. ~ John D. Buchanan
