Album Review

After solidly establishing themselves on the contemporary heavy music scene, Avenged Sevenfold wasted little time following up their 2005 break-through effort, City of Evil. The band took a bold step on their fourth and self-titled full-length, opting to produce it themselves: a risky task indeed for such a young band. Right out of the gate, singer M. Shadows leads A7X even further into melodic territory. Still, the band explore dramatic power metal in the epic "A Little Piece of Heaven," while first single "Critical Acclaim" cuts close for what has become the group's signature sound. Nonetheless, it is on this self-titled set that the band sets its sights on the mainstream.

Back with a new feel

Avenged Sevenfold are back, this time feeling a little bit country and a bit classical too. Each song has a different feeling, from Critical Acclaim's politically driven sound to Dear God's country roots. All songs are standouts but in particular, Afterlife, with an orchestral beginning which then cuts into a classic Synyster Gates guitar-chestra, and A Little Piece Of Heaven, different from anything the band has ever done, with plenty of eerie sounding instruments and The Rev's vocals doing this song justice. In Lost, we can hear the talkbox being used, showing that this album is very experimental, but of course, in a good way. All Avenged Sevenfold album's are great and this one is no different, we still hear the ear melting Synyster Gates' solos and The Rev's amazing drum fills and M Shadow's vocals better than ever, the only bad thing is that it's only 10 tracks long. Great effort by an amazing band.

spectacularrrr

all the songs are different but still have the same AV7X feel. i much prefer there newer albums like this one. they are one of the rare bands that have improved over there albums rather then turned mainstream. the best song by far is gunslinger it is one of the most powerful songs ive heard in a while. others i like are critical aclaim and almost easy. you seriously have to buy this.

In A class of there own.

The members of metalcore outfit Avenged Sevenfold (or A7X) were still attending high school in Huntington Beach, CA, when they formed their band in 1999. Nevertheless, it didn't take long for M. Shadows (vocals), Zacky Vengeance (guitar), Synyster Gates (guitar), the Reverend (drums), and Johnny Christ (bass) to make an impression with their aggressive hybrid of metal, hard rock, and punk-pop. The band made its official debut in July 2001, releasing Sounding the Seventh Trumpet on the Good Life label...
