Takes One Step Back.. To Basics

Christina Aguilera has been known for experimenting with music (and clothes) and creating something is mainstream and not at the same time. Now, topping her mega selling Stripped was going to be no easy feat, so it's a disappointment to see that this extremely talented artist falls short on this record. “Ain’t No Other Man”, “Candyman” & “Slow Down Baby” are the beat heavy swing jazz that almost anybody can shake to but what really ruins these tracks (and most of the album) is that although Christina may have pipes that work their way over every other pop starlet, at most times you feel like every song is being shouted to you. (DO NOT play “Oh Mother” on your iPod full blast!) One of the only songs to be free from this bellowing, “Save Me From Myself” is perhaps the best track on the album. Aguilera seems to keep familiarity during the cd with songs like “Still Dirrty” (an ode to Dirrty) and “Thankyou… (Dedication To The Fans)” samples Genie In A Bottle (even though the song does seem to be more like a dedication to how she helped people, not how people helped her) In the end, Back To Basics isn’t the best album of the year, but perhaps the most original. And although original, it’s not real enough to be believable. Especially if your ears hurt halfway into the record. Top Picks: Save Me From Myself, Slow Down Baby, Hurt

Will she ever find her niche?

I admit i am a fan of Cristina's but am disapointed at ther latest effort , while the stand out songs "candy man" "save me from myself" and "anit no other man" are excellent , the rest of the album fails in comparrison. Ever since she did a duet with nelly she has incorperated a jazz "5o's" persona and sound for her album , i like how she has experimented but i would have liked a bit more variety. This album is severley overatted.

I LOVE IT!

I'll be honest. I never liked Christina but after hearing this album I AM A FAN! So even if you never liked her music, you gotta love this album!

Biography

Born: 18 December 1980 in Staten Island, NY

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

A leader in the parade of Mickey Mouse Club veterans who stormed pop at the turn of the millennium, Christina Aguilera was the sexy, brassy diva of the bunch — the Rolling Stones to Britney Spears’ Beatles, as it were. Initially, it was difficult to see Christina outside of the prism of Britney, whose 1999 success launched the new millennium's teen pop boom, but Christina’s big hits of 1999 — “Genie in a Bottle,” “What a Girl Wants,” “Come on Over” — more than held their own with...
