The start of the 80

When Icehouse were Flowers. Brilliant song for the time and just as good today. I have this on the original Flowers album called Icehouse, their first, from 1980. Yes, it's vinyl. I've now downloaded this extended version, over a minute more of a great song that's excellent for air drumming (It has an air guitar bit too).

Check out the title song from the album, Fatman too, as well as We Can Get Together and Sister. In fact, just listen to the whole album, it's great. Iva Davies, a genius, he wrote, produced, sung and played guitar on most of this stuff. What with Flowers/Icehouse, INXS, Cold Chisel, Men At Work, Mental As Anything and Midnight Oil, Australia had an abundance of talent in the 80's. What a great time for music.

The group changed their name to Icehouse when they released their second album, Primitive Man, that has that iconic song that just exudes Australia - Great Southern Land.

Great Early Work

Icehouse is my favourite Australian band. This song is a great early work from the uneven but sentimentally important first album, “Icehouse”. The name of the band is confusing to the layman but steeped in history for the initiated. To be able to buy a single, 30 years after release and thus next to impossible to collect, is a great joy to me and the fact it’s free is amazing!

Welcome back

Great to finally be able to listen to these on my mac. Shame for the 30 year copyright war but I suppose the next few years will be fun as the back catalogue becomes available.

The live songs make it all worthwhile and not just a sidewalk (no pun intended) into nostalgia lane.

Can't wait for the Man of Colours release. I do hope Iva keeps the live tracks coming - good to see new value in re-released material.
