So sad about us

It's hard to listen to this album and not wonder what might have been, given that this final Sparklehorse album has been in limbo for so long. The list of names involved in Dark Night of the Soul is a testament to the ragged glory and sinister genius of one Mark Linkous, who sadly left our shores earlier this year, and will never return.

EMI have sat on this album for well over a year. From what I heard it was leaked by Danger Mouse in May 2009, after EMi in their infinite wisdom refused to release it. Jump forward to March 2010 and Mark Linkous takes his own life, and still the record remains unreleased.

I can not recommend this record highly enough, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to think that the label that refused to release this whilst Mark Linkous was alive now stands to profit from his death. Seek this record out to celebrate a wonderful life, and if you can do it without giving anything to EMI, go right ahead.
