Sung from the heart
A great accoustic review of old Hunters & Collectors classics. Mark's voice has grown in an amazing way since the days I used to see his band at pubs. Songs that used to seem fun, like Holy Grail now convey a lot of meaning and sadness. The accoustic move has certainly been a positive one for Mark. - This album is sung from the heart.
Amazing Mix of Vocals and Songwriting
The highlight of the one time I saw Hunters and Collectors live (at St George Leagues) was the passion and ultimate conviction with which Mark Seymour sang the lyrics to all songs, but especially the slower ones. This album somehow captures that passion in the studio. The star here is the vocals, the instruments played soft and with a deliberate 'backing' feel. While the Hunters songs are brilliant, the couple of new(?) songs I had not heard previously are worthy of their inclusion. Standout tracks include the heartwrenching and almost tear inducing duo 'Ready to Go' and 'What's a Few Men', 'The Slab' just for how it's been acoustically arranged from its grungy original, and 'You Stole My Thunder' beautifully taken from the masterful Ghost Nation album. This album really showcases the best of Mark Seymour.
