Understated Genius
This is some of the best music I have listened to. I saw Shane play live in Coffs Harbour on the Rattlin' Bones tour he did with Kasey and he played about 5 or 6 songs to open the show. I was rivetted. He is a very talented and accomplished lyricist and musician and he has no bells or whistles - he just does his thing. The stand out tracks to me are Long Time Coming and God & Elvis. The whole disc is pure and unadultarated soulful genius. I love it. Shane Nicholson is the real deal. His talent is rare and heartfelt and it shines through in his music. Thank you, Shane. You and Kasey make beautiful music together but you give me goosebumps on your own.
Fuse Is Burning Bright
These songs are musical poetry. Awesome strumming,singing and stories. After the first listen I had to go again.... and again! Shane just writes magical songs that capture your mind and soul and he "knows what you want"
A breath of fresh air
By far the most musically sophisticated, unassuming and eclectic sounding country artist that I have stumbled across in some time. Although I love the banjo and mandolin he does so well, I think the ‘country’ tag limits the scope of this music- I think it is just great original, Australian contemporary music, which references many artistic influences. I was very impressed with his mastery of the many (8?) different guitars he seemed to switch between with ease when seeing him live in Barooga, NSW on the Rattlin Bones Tour. He well and truly deserved equal billing with Kasey. Rattlin Bones is on high rotation in our house (our 1 yr old loves it!), but it is great to see Shane continuing his solo work too. Loved this album, and would love to see more duo and solo adventures. Highly recommend…
