Customer Reviews

One to watch

I purchased this off the strength of a song called "Silver" Josh had when he was going by the mysterious name of Night Hour. I only had it as a free download from his website and due to the number of times I had listened to it, I thought I’d better pay for something! I find his sound is like a meld between recent Brian Wilson songs and Ben Lee, which is odd, as I don’t like either of those artists too much. The sound of his voice is melancholy by default (I guess) but I find him at his best when his songs become more layered with harmonies and his more energised singing style. His song "Middle Of The Hill" is getting lots of airplay on Triple J and deservedly so as it is a great song. Only having listened to this album a few times, the songs “Private Education” and “Goldmines” are the early standouts. I feel that he is going to be one of those artists that is going to get better with each release.

so many stars!

I think all these stars and glowing customer reviews say more than I can...haunting, beautiful, with just the right amount of aussie twang to the vowels. Not the usual, ultra-repetitive lyrics a la James Blunt et al, but meaningful, appropriate narratives married to meaningful, appropriate music. 'Middle of the Hill' and 'Beg Your Pardon' (the OP was right, it's 'your': iTunes stuffed up) certainly deserve extra mention for the deft interplay of music to story, where it's only apparent if you listen closely. Here's hoping iTunes will get access to 'Recordings 2003-2005 EP' - if not; go out and buy a copy!

Love this

Fantastic! Its so refreshing to see a guy doing an album like this, i have been waiting and waiting for this to come out. i love beg your pardon ( itunes has spelt it wrong) and middle of the hill is so nostalgic. Props to josh for capturing the nuance of my generation ( o that sounds so nanna, but its true!!)
