Sydney Duo Give Good Groove for The Birds
The Mess Hall have been gigging around Australian festivals, pubs and clubs since well at least before Homebake in 2002 when I last saw them). This album so called because they felt it would appeal to their female audience more because it grooves - evokes beach shacks in Australian coastal towns - rollup cigarettes, cold schooners, a bet at the TAB, banging away at a steelstring acoustic, and early morning surfs with about 5 other dudes. Great production without being overproduced. Standout tracks the beautifully atmospheric Silhouettes, the two chord mantra of Bare that climaxes to a cacophonous squawl and the swinging sassiness of The Switch. Play it in in a big room with high ceilings or a car!
"My Villain"
Downloaded My Villain as it was free but can't say I like it too much...it's bearable but a boring song. Can't speak for the other songs on this album though.
