Thumping

Icky Thump is a fantastic opener and really sets the theme for this new one from Jack and Meg. Just like with the title track, the majority of the songs on this album push Jack's overdriven electric guitar right out in front, which although certainly is not anything new for the Stripes, is a refreshing change from the piano balladry of Get Behind Me. There are some real crackers here like Conquest, You Don't Know What Love Is with classic White Stripes experimentation with Prickly Thorn and Rag and Bone. To be sure it is an excellent album, however eventually it may come to the point where people grow tired of their classic hard blues driven sound and no amount of bagpipes, trumpets or univox keyboards will save them from uninventive songs.
