Album Review

Taking a cue from the Van Halen playbook, the III in the title of Korn III: Remember Who You Are isn’t a numbering device; it signifies an opening of another phase in Korn’s career. Somehow, the band has bypassed a Korn II altogether in its discography, but it’s commonly acknowledged that the tail end of the 2000s found the group floundering a bit, going so far as to flirt with the Matrix in an attempt to figure out which direction to go now that the bandmembers have hit middle age. This is where the subtitle comes in: Korn have certainly remembered who they are, ditching all the affectations that crippled their muddled 2007 eponymous album and rediscovering their voice. They’ve gone back to the coiled, furious sputter of their debut, but there’s no disguising that Korn are an older band, substituting precision for frenzy without diluting their power. That’s a crucial difference: they’re not desperately attempting to re-create their youth; they’re reconnecting with their passions and re-interpreting them from their perspective as veterans. Sometimes they stumble — in many ways, Jonathan Davis has the trickiest problem by putting actual words to their emotions — but as sheer galvanizing force, Korn III delivers due to that combination of raw aggression and musical finesse. [The Special Edition features three bonus tracks, as well as a DVD of music videos recorded in-studio during the recording of the album.]

Customer Reviews

KoRn III = Awesomness.

They've done what they said they'll do - and that's bring that raw, growling KoRn sound back. KoRn III is a tripp back to 1994, it feeds from what made KoRn stand apart, evolves it with 17 years of sonic experimentation and experience and delivers an up-to-date, modern mix of old & new skool KoRn. It's heavy, funky and cathartically driven - everything it was said to, and needs to be.
This special edition comes with 2 great bonus tracks and awesome artsy "making of" music videos set to each track, showing the boys playing and recording the album in the studio. They go straight onto your iPhone or iPod and beat the hell outta a little book of still photos!

Basic, Raw and Superb

If you're a fan of Korn's earlier work, then you will like this. They have returned to a basic and raw sound, due in part to the return of their original producer Ross Robinson. All the members sound brilliant, particularly Jonathan, and new drummer Ray Luzier provides a style different to David Silveria but still fits in perfectly. One of the best records this year.

Favourite tracks are Oildale (Leave Me Alone), Move On, Pop a Pill, Lead the Parade and Let the Guilt Go

a big let down

after hearing korn were going back to there old roots l got excited and getting my hands this cd four days early only got me more excited. As l loaded the disc cranked the speakers l sat back ready, wow and what a great start is was as well with uber-time leading into Oildale l was hanging onto my seat but then what feared came true the next few tracks very ordinary then after the whole album l must say l was let down ,apart from a few decent songs ,highlights for me was Move on and Let the guilt go which reminded me a song years ago (Let the bodies hit the floor)it"ll come back to you.I think what went wrong hear is in the vocals music wise the band is rockin but poor verses let down the start of most songs even whe3n the chours is good ,all in all there are 5 tracks that really stand out but its not enough for a whole album these days

Korn's cathartic alternative metal sound positioned the group among the most popular and provocative to emerge during the post-grunge era. Korn began their existence as the Bakersfield, California-based metal band LAPD, which included guitarists James "Munky" Shaffer and Brian "Head" Welch, bassist Reginald "Fieldy Snuts" Arvizu, and drummer David Silveria. After issuing an LP, the members of LAPD in 1993 crossed paths with Jonathan Davis, a mortuary science student moonlighting...
