Album Review
Called a "mini-album" by her label, Astralwerks, Sia's Lady Croissant is a collection of eight live tracks (from her April 2006 performance in New York's Bowery Ballroom) and one new studio track, the darkly bubbly single, "Pictures." The recordings sound good, the band (bass, cello, drums, guitar, and keys) tight and lush, and Sia herself is spot-on, her vocals rich and passionate. The set here is short (and the actual concert wasn't much longer), but the singer pulls material from both Healing Is Difficult and Colour the Small One (including "Breathe Me," featured in the popular television show Six Feet Under's series finale) as well as two tracks, "Destiny" and "Distractions," from Zero 7's Simple Things (Garden wouldn't come out until June, so unfortunately her contributions to that album aren't included here). There's a song of hers called "Lentil," the only one she introduces by name here, and a Cher/Pretenders — with inspirational credit given to the latter — cover (written by Ray Davies), "I Go to Sleep." Sia, her voice, her style, hearken back to the late '90s, drawing comparisons to early Nelly Furtado and Morley, but the music here, her music, doesn't seem dated or unhip. It's very modern, warm and melodic and cleanly intricate, and shows off Sia's talents well, making Lady Croissant an important listen for her fans, and enough to sway those less familiar with her work into checking out what else she has to offer.

Sia: Warm as a croissant and just as tasty
This record opens with “Pictures” the quirky tune that many might have already downloaded months ago off her site http://siamusic.net/ when it was featured in a commercial. Also, has the lovely quirky, adorable and touching vid-clip which makes it a great opener to what then become a live record of moving tunes and frankly raw honest music. Honest? Well here is a lady with the style to not need to over produce what is surely one of the better releases of this year for strong female vocalists. “Breathe Me” a personal emotional tear jerker after it was released the same time as a major break of the heart. The bareness here - cuts the tune even deeper into the soul, heart and reality of the strains of being in that place. How does it compare - I thought I was impressed by Amy Winehouse’s new album and even to a degree the new Joss Stone record - this puts to shame the Winehouse and Stone’s of this world. Sia has grown to live the LIVE experience and it would be hard (unlike on other like recordings) to find pimples in the vocal delivery. Sia wonders through the layers of pain, joy and hope as if she is your personal tour guide to the soul. It scares me to think what would have been happened had she not moved from Adelaide and out of Australia. She has the international appeal - because she is an international delight of truth in writing and performance.
Just listen
No, Sia is not Dido's long lost sister. Her lyrics are very natural and her songs deeper than any ocean. "Breathe Me" will keep you hooked for days.
Breathe Me
Breathe me is without a doubt one of the greatest songs ever. For those that remember it was the song played in the final scene ever of Six Feet Under. It is so powerful. The rest of the album is just as good.
