Cold Chisel remains one of Australia’s best-loved groups. They toured and recorded regularly, and in addition to six studio albums, five live sets, and a rarities collection, there are numerous recordings that have never seen the light of day. The band members delved deep into the Chisel archives for this selection of previously unreleased live and studio cuts that reveal the depth and breadth of the band’s music. “Juliet” originally appeared as opening track on their 1978 debut album; this is the demo from the pre-first album sessions, circa September 1977. Zooming ahead to 2003, we have three songs, including a version of “Bal a Versailles” with Don Walker on vocals, that have previously been available only on the Ringside DVD as bonus tracks. Throughout their touring career, Chisel included cover material regularly in the live repertoire, and there are some splendid examples here. The band’s live set at the Playroom, early 1983, provides a soulful cover of the Isaac Hayes/David Porter classic “When Something is Wrong with My Baby,” and they race through a slamming version of the Little Richard standard “Rip it Up.”

This is simply a document from Oz's greatest band showing how its done.
Fantastic memories
Excellent album, brings back so many fantastic memories, I stood in front of the stage for this concert and totally enjoyed Cold Chisel, this was one of my first outdoor live concerts, also enjoyed seeing Midnight Oil and the Angels at the same concert. And I reckon I was standing right next to the other photographer who took the photo on this album cover.
