With 1 exception ... brilliant!
After 'Scratch my Back', I eagerly anticipated 'New Blood'. With the exception of 1 track, I rate this highly. PGs reworkings of his own tracks do give them new life, new meaning, new emotion and renewed impact. The orchestrations are superb ... and the instrumental tracks on the 'Special Edition' soar and are emotive but in a different way from the tracks with PG's vox.
The absence of guitars and drums is stunning and as evocative as his innovative use of gated drums in the 80s when he set a trend.
The ambient noise track that precedes 'Solsbury Hill' is amazing.
The only track that misses the mark is 'Don't Give Up'. Such a shame PG couldn't get Kate Bush to reprise her vocals for this song on 'New Blood'.
Otherwise, a great album that gives PGs older songs a new emphasis if you're a fan! If you're not, you may find yourself seeking the original versions for comparison.
