Role Reversal
With an interesting mix of powerful and significant songs that define woman, it is amazing as on this album the men give a tribute to these songs and artist. Significant emphasis should be placed on Dan Kelly and his amazing preformance of Sinnead O' Connor's "Nothing Compares to you". Additionally, The Vine's Version of "The Veronica's" "4Ever" turns the upbeat song into a dreamy ballad, yet still allows the song to retain its catchy beat. This album is definatley a Must Have
An Amazing, Sensitive, Surprising, Fearless album
Wow!!Never felt driven to review anything before this. A strange & lovely, generous celebration of women. Perfect matching of great artists to great songs. I would love to hear what they said about recording these tracks. I’m finding this a very personal, moving, witty, impressive album. A lovely surprise was they chose songs that have been really important to me: Bjork; Joni Mitchell; Stevie nicks; Blondie; EBTG; Portishead; Kate bush). I can’t stop listening to it. Powderfinger- passionate, psychedelic, rich, plus BF’s familiar, comforting voice; Dan Kelly-tender, moving, light hearted; Angus Stone-sensitive & dreamy; Josh Pike – gentle weaving harmonies; Whitley’s hyperballad captures the urgent quirky love in what I now see as a very female song (made me think about how different women’s song writing can be when hearing a guy’s interpretation). Strangely, listening to this record created a subliminal aura of attractiveness around these guys(even though I know they didn’t write the songs) -proving we (me anway!)don’t find sensitivity in men soppy but sexy!! Talking of which, Tex brings it back to lusty earth: totally confident, believable, dripping with his usual mix of cocky, tongue in cheek hotness. Grinspoon, Expatriates, End of fashion, Paul Kelly- it just keeps coming. I haven’t got any more adjectives left.
the vines rock it!
