Album Review

Powderfinger's Odyssey Number Five is a slightly off-base perspective into the world of mid-'90s American grunge and its conspicuous debt to Neil Young. The title track takes Placebo — sneers and all — and places them in a pair of stadium trousers; single "My Happiness" drowns a hip-hop-inspired guitar riff better than most bands of their stature.

Customer Reviews

Heartfelt, rocking and soulful

Powderfinger may not be the greatest rock band of all time, but they show they can be pretty damn good with this fine album. This is a sort of transition album from their Double Allergic/Internationalist heavier stylings to the Vulture Street retro-rock feel. This means that anyone who likes Double Allergic, Internationalist or Vulture Street really should love this album also. An appeal to all audiences. Also holds some of their more notable hits including "My Happiness", "Like a Dog", "My Kind of Scene" and the terrific "These Days". Other highlights include: "Waiting for the Sun", "We Should Be Together Now" and "Thrillology". A must have for any Aussie-rock fan.
