Drawing inspiration from late-'60s psychedelia and mid-'90s pop underground acts like Matthew Sweet, Australia's Lovetones formed in the early 2000s with Matthew J. Tow, Matthew Sigley, Serge Luca, and Chris Cobb. Having generated a considerable buzz with their 2002 Bomp debut, Be What You Want, the band went on to tour and eventually collaborate with the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
