Pure joy

Firstly, Emily's voice is a gift from the Divine, and if she continues as she is, she will surely become well known for it. At least preview or download Track 12 if you haven't heard them before. I've had this since buying a prerelease from them at Fairbridge Festival in April 2009, where they were easily the highlight for me. At work listening to this on some good headphones I suddenly feel like everything is OK. Tracks like the last just lift me to another place. Some tracks show a girlie innocence, while others show maturity and wisdom beyond their years. Musically they are obviously influenced by Cat Empire's Harry Angus working with them, and draw on the elders such as Bob Dylan, but have the skill to reinterpret with their own sound. These guys may be young, but their mastery of their instruments and timing is impeccable. A very percussive number they performed live showed this off. Their sound live and on this recording is very crisp and pure joy to listen to. I would give 4.5 stars if I could. I think they will do better, and there are a couple of songs I find a little ponderous. But if 5 stars means better than 8/10, they deserve it.

Amazing

This is a collection of great tracks Emily has an amazing voice. Loved Saudades, Another Town, Peppercorn Tree. Do yourself a favour.

Beautiful

Emily has such an amazing voice. This is an original, haunting sound. Contrary to other reviews, I don't find the songs all sound the same. They each have very distinct characteristics, but fit well together. It's lyrically simple, but beautifully crafted, and the accompanying rhythm and instrumental layers are perfect. Lovely, Saudades and Bottom of the Lake are stand out tracks. Am so glad Tinpan Orange were recommended to me, they've got me into a lovely, calm, contemplative frame of mind. Love it. Am recommending the album to people and will go to see them live.
