Are you kidding me?

How do you get this sound? It's of an ilk of what I call Gothic American Folk, there's a bunch of U.S artists who tap into this space, creating a timelessness, a transportation to an essence of uniquely American audio landscapes that are so visually fleeting and yet so beguiling. I can't believe the dimension and texture present in 'Boy With A Coin', it's like the guys from E.L.O had love children who formed a commune and applied all the technical studio brilliance they were exposed to and applied it to their simple folk style ballads, and somehow got it out into the world! George Harrison would have loved this band, it's soul music without the smoke filled rooms, it's breath and serenity, pure and universal. If we are going to send music into space for the Aliens to hear it should be, 'Resurrection Fern', they could only interpret this offering as our impression of the fragility we share, the tenderness of emotion, the sweetness of memories, a song that reflects a race of individuals who are not in conflict but merely peaceful souls who have reverance for nature and love. With a note: "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one".

The Shepherd's Dog

It's actually not my favourite...only Resurrecion Fern has the classic soft Sam Beam sound. The rest is a little too polished. Though having said that even average Iron & Wine is ridiculously good.

Iron & Wine

This being the first Iron & Wine album I have purchased, I am overwhelmed by the quality of the music this band produces. The floaty harmonies and the tender, emotion-charged melodies create a musical soundscape that soars leagues above the repetitive commercialised sound of popular music at the moment. If you want a truly magical album, with 12 tracks of music worthy of kings, you need "The Shepherd's Dog". Stand out tracks: Carousel, Innocent Bones, Boy With A Coin

Singer/songwriter Samuel Beam, who rose to prominence with a blend of whispered vocals and softly homespun indie folk, chose the moniker Iron & Wine after coming across a dietary supplement named "Beef Iron & Wine" while working on a film. Raised in South Carolina, Beam received his bachelor's degree in art from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and later his Master of Fine Arts degree from Florida State University Film School. Although Beam would later expand his sound to include...
