Customer Reviews
Worthwhile album, affective love songs, a little repetitious, but enlightening Ben Lee charm.
A pretty good album. This is definitely very 'Ben Lee', since he wrote the music. I was really excited to stumble across more of his work, which I've looked forward to since 'Awake Is The New Sleep' and especially 'Ripe'. This album is like a collection of his slow songs. Jessica Chapnik does a pretty good job, and I'd like to see how she progresses in the future, especially if she finds her own voice/style. The only drawback I find with this album is the repetition; many of the songs use repetitive phrases and versus, but that can make them fairly catchy, and it's worth the repetition for the nuggets of gold Ben Lee imbues in his music and lyrics.
The Square
If you have ever wanted to hear a Ben Lee album without Ben Lee this is the album for you. The Square soundtrack was written by Ben Lee and the vocals done by Jessica Chapnik of former (Home & Away) fame. I am not sure if the album was written with the idea of Chapnik doing the vocals due to the lyrics sound like they have been written for Lee to sing for example in No Such Thing... "when i'm with you I feel like a man in need of a taste wanting a touch"... Either or, Chapnik's vocals are well suited to the theme of the album and add a much appreciated change to the regular PoPiness Lee often displays in his albums. Overall this is a pretty solid album and well worth the listen.
