Album of the Year

Evermore has produced their most complete album to date, and this has little to do with the fact the songs meld together brilliantly. Whilst some have criticised the album for this interesting technique, the fact that the songs run together - and in fact some songs share phrases, tunes, and so on - reinforces the message of the album and joins it together as one big song. Songs like Plugged In and Between the Lines - Evermore's homage to Muse - Join the Party and Everybody's Doing It indicate Evermore's move towards a far more traditional rock sound, but still manage to put their own edge on the sound, keeping it unique and fresh, and not at all mainstream. Songs like "Max Is Stable" whilst short and seemingly squished between lead singles Between the Lines and Hey Boys And Girls, is hugely fun and has a great rock beat as well. For fans looking for another Light Surrounding you, piano tracks Tonight on the Show and The Lonely Ones are as close as you'll get, with both songs brilliantly written and delivered. The album has very few weaknesses, with Girl With the Worl on her Shoulders one of the few I'm not yet a fan of. Infotainmentology and Front Page Story are also quieter songs and more remeniscent of their first album, with Infotainmentology very remeniscent of the newer Panic at the Disco style. Chemical Miracle / Faster is frustrating in that Faster has a brilliant hook and catchy beat but lasts for little over a minute, with the song dedicated more to the Chemical Miracle portion, but still a good song as a whole, which melds into the finale, which is a brilliant closure to the album. Over all, there is very little weakness on this album, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it both nominated for, and winning, Album of the Year. Then again, it's non-mainstremedness may hurt it in this regard.

Stayed up all night

Stayed up all night listening to this album, it blew me away. It's not like anything, let alone like old Evermore stuff. JUST LISTEN! Wrap on some big headphones and let yourself disappear.

Wow!

Don't listen to the newspaper critics who smash it because of the concept. They didn't listen to the music which goes off!!! "Join the party" combined with "Everybody's doing it," equals awesumness.

New Zealand alternative rock trio Evermore comprised the three Hume brothers: singer/guitarist Jon, bassist/keyboardist Peter, and drummer Dann. Weaned on their parents' record collection (the band's name originates with the classic Led Zeppelin ballad "The Battle of Evermore"), the Fielding-born Humes played music throughout their adolescence, first collaborating under the Evermore aegis in 1999. A year later, they claimed top honors in the annual Kiwi high school band competition Rock Quest, channeling...
