Album Review

Since there is so much injustice in the way music is marketed and presented, often undeserving bands get the limelight, when others, in this case Australia's Angels (or Angel City to some) are one of those acts. This 20-track set establishes and makes a case for the kind of hard, rootsy dirty a*s rock & roll the Angels made during their tenure from the '70s through to the early '90s when they called it a day. They were not without success in their homeland, and in Europe to some extent. They were celebrated by AC/DC who not only gave them the shot to record their first single, "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again," and album, but took them on the road as well. These cuts are the evidence for rock & roll that didn't need much to get its point across; even if that point was pure hedonism and a righteous sneer at all things false. Though fans can gleefully or passionately argue about what's here and what's not, the one thing they cannot dispute is that everything on this slab is top-notch, guttersnipe rockism. From the aforementioned single to "Marseilles," to the edgy apocalyptica of "Stand Up" and the gritty, reality based "Backstreet Pickup," it's all there. All you need. Pick it up, turn it up, rip it up.

Great Band with a forever sound

When it comes to Australian Rock acts we must not ever forget some of its roots. The Angels in their day were one of the greatest bands in the world. Sharing stages with other great bands such as AC/DC and Cold Chisel. They left their mark in every country they toured... To this day if you never knew who they were you would definatly know a few of their awesome songs. Punching guitar riffs and gotcha lyrics. The Angels had it all and were proud to be Australian. A must for any collection..Dan..

Long live the Angels!

To those that lived it, there are "No Secrets" and to those that haven't, "Stand Up" and purchase this album. You will not regret it!

When the Party needs a pick-up !

The Angels were the best Australian Party band by miles. This Album displays the depth of the band. I actually remember them touring with AC/DC as the Keystone Angels and even played at my home town with Acca/Dacca. Doc Neeson's drive is strong on each hit. My fav's are No Secrets, Who Rings the Bell, Take a Long Line, and Am I ever gonna see your Face again ?. The album is well backed up with the late hits Let the Night Roll On and the thrashing hard hitting The Dogs are Talking . So, for a Party Pick-Up here's The Angels !.

Biography

Formed: 1973 in Australia

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s

Delivering raucous hard rock in the tradition of contemporaries like AC/DC and Rose Tattoo, the Angels were among the longest-lasting and most beloved bands ever to emerge from the Australian pub circuit. Their roots date back to 1973, when singer Doc Neeson and guitarist Rick Brewster first teamed at university in an eccentric acoustic covers group dubbed the Moonshine Jug and String Band; by the following year they began adopting a more straightforward and electric approach, rechristening themselves...
