Precursor to genius
Headed by Australia's most exciting up-and-coming lyricist, MC Mantra, Illzilla is an explosive live outfit that have successfully made the transition to studio recording. Their sound is strong, and the horns punchy, with Mantra's clever and thoroughly entertaining lyrics adding depth to the tracks. The traumatic early passing of their talented vocalist Paul Havea could have cast a pall over this album, but instead his presence is clearly felt as a guiding light and provides a feeling of hope for the future of this band. If they can overcome this sort of tragedy and still accomplish something as brilliant as this album, then they can officially claim the title of "The next big thing"!. Standout tracks are Cut Feet and War Song, in my opinion, but the whole album holds together as a remarkably cohesive and eminently listenable work.
