Basically The Best
Wally deBacker is a special kind of song writer. Between Gotye and The Basics he's traversed the edges of the majority of music genres - from rock to electronica to hip-hop to pop and everywhere in-between - and all along the way he's managed to just get better and better. With The Basics behind him the focus is on pop-rock, but they manage to always exceed the constraints of their genre to deliver something above and beyond anything any other band in the same genre can. A tight composition, an emotional heart without being overwrought or angsty, and a steady beat with instant hooks. This is different to The Basics of the past, perhaps getting closer to being more Gotye, but it is the best they've produced in their short existence. With This Ship is a new direction, but at the same time it is the same direction that Wally and The Basics have been travelling all along.

These boys don't mess around. Not going down "With This Ship"! Strong swelling harmonies and superb production, a joy to listen to, can't wait to hear the rest of the album. Something to help us all steer through the crises of modern life, 'Trouble In His Head' is lyrical and bittersweet, we all know someone like that!
