Album Review
After Radiohead refused to accept the mantle of "world's biggest and most important rock band," Coldplay stepped up to the plate with their debut, Parachutes. Tasteful, earnest, introspective, anthemic, and grounded in guitars, Coldplay was everything Radiohead weren't but fans wanted them to be; Parachutes became a transatlantic hit and the sequel, A Rush of Blood to the Head, was even bigger, positioning Coldplay to be new Radiohead and the new U2. To that end, Coldplay's third album, X&Y, is designed to elevate them to the major leagues. It's deliberate and sleek, hip enough to sample Kraftwerk and blend in fashionable post-punk allusions without altering the band's core. X&Y is hardly a bold step forward, but rather a consolidation of Coldplay's strengths, particularly their skill at crafting surging, widescreen epics.

Pure bliss
This album is genius. I was a bit worried about what this album would be like following the brilliant albums Parachutes and A Rush Of Blood To The Head, but from Square One to Till Kingdom Come, Coldplay have made this album a joy to listen to. From the songs you can tap your feet along with to the beautiful soul wrenching ballads, and everything in between, you will not be disappointed with Coldplays effort. Some songs such as Talk, Low and Square One make you want to get up and dance. Others such as What If, Fix You, A Message and Swallowed In The Sea make you want to cry and smile at the same time because of their powerful fusion of music and lyrics. I didn't think it was possible for Coldplay to surpass their brilliance on Rush Of Blood with songs such as The Scientist, Politik, Clocks and God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, but I must say that I was definately not disappointed with X&Y and would recommend it to anyone.
X&Y - Not Coldplays best but still worth it
I didnt find X&Y to be as satisfying as their previous 2 albums - however some of the songs are classic Coldplay, particularly "Speed of Sound". One of the other songs "Talk" had me scratching my head for the longest time thinking that I'd heard it before. Then it dawned on me, the guitar rift you hear throughout the song is lifted straight from Kraftwerk's 1981 song "Computer Love" which can be found on their album "Computer World" - seek it out and you'll hear what I mean.
Like no other
This album is simply THE best album of anyone I have ever bought. On no other album that I have, do I love every single song on it. Square One, a wonderfully emotional and soft song; What If, lovely and thoughtful lyrics; White Shadows, again fantastic and emotional; Fix You - oh god this is a fantastic song - powerful music, breathtakingly sorrowful lyrics, simply sensational; Talk, a lovely song with great lyrics; X&Y, a fantastic intro to the song and wonderful sound; Speed of Sound, by far the best work by Coldplay yet - magnificent lyics, a beautifully melodic chorus like no other - diviine; A Message, beautiful lyrics, soft and uplifting music; Low, also a lovely piece, nice mix of tone, interesting lyrics; The Hardest Part, also a fantastic song, uplifting and melodic as they come; Swallowed In the Sea, nice song, beautiful lyrics; Twisted Logic, lovely lilting beat, interesting lyrics and nice tune; Till Kingdom Come, a lovely acoustic track, heartfelt lyrics and lovely soft tones. This is without doubt a fantastic album - absolutely priceless. A pox on people giving it low ratings just because it's too expensive for them. I'm voting for this as my favourite album in ABC's competition.
