Description
The Onkyo Remote Control App is an official Onkyo application for iPhone/iPod touch letting you intuitively operate Onkyo network A/V products. Available as a free download, it is compatible with all network-capable Onkyo A/V receivers as well as some network-ready produts released during or after 2010.
Functions Enabled by Onkyo Remote2
(1) Internet radio operation. Stations are touchscreen selectable, with no need to view a TV display;
(2) Control of streaming audio files from a DLNA-compatible server. Your iPhone/iPod touch can be used to select music directly from the server;
(3) General remote control and playback functions;
(4) Volume-control function;
(5) Information including station frequency displayed when listening to radio. (Note: available only on A/V products with a built-in radio tuner);
(6) Stream music stored on iPod touch/iPhone wirelessly. (Added capability to play music stored on compatible iPod touch/iPhone models on 2012-model Network AV Receivers.)
(7) Compatible with Spotify (depends on region)
(8) FLAC, DSD, and Apple Lossless playback capability via Home Media Function (depends on model)

Better than Version 1.
I've got the TX-NR5009 and It works good with it. Found my AMP straight away no adding ports or selecting a device like Version 1. But I'd like to see a few additions like a - sleep, dimmer, display and a wake on LAN button. Even adding a '+' and '-' button to the Volume slider would be good, to get a more accurate volume when running 'Relative (THX)' . Also a small gripe - changing the app name would be good, so it appears without the '...' on the home screen. It just looks strange to see 'Onkyo...ote2' under the icon. I think just the word 'Remote' would suffice as the icon already has Onkyo on it. As well as a iPad specific app would be nice. Thanks!
Fine when it works...
when it's working it's fine, but it almost as if after only a few days it will just lock on the start screen with the blue ring, so then I have to uninstall it which means I have to rename all my inputs where the app also likes crashing... it's beyond frustrating, it's been doing this for multiple versions on both my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 surely it cant be that hard to fix???
Works extremely well and greatly improved
This app has reached a maturity level that basically makes it fully meet my expectations. I have a 717 AV receiver and an iPhone 5 and it just works great. I use it mainly to play back DLNA music files and network radio. It works fast, reconnects real quick on app relaunch and picks up exactly from where it left off.
I bought initially bought the oRemote app because this one was lacking. Now this one far surpasses it.
