Description
Strange Business: making sense of the film industry' is published by the Australian Film Television & Radio School. The book will be serialised in five chapters, each exploring an aspect of the 'strange business' of creating screen content. The first chapter introduces the players who drive the content industries and maps their complex interactions. Subsequent chapters will explore the strategies used by successful filmmakers to win creative and financial independence, the lessons to be learned from the 100 year history of the movie business, the so-called Copyright Wars and their implications for creators, and the nuts-and-bolts of building a content business.
Authored by Head of Screen Business David Court, the book makes extensive use of video interviews with a stellar cast of Australian filmmakers including Jan Chapman (The Piano), Al Clark (Chopper, Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), Tristram Miall (Strictly Ballroom), Emile Sherman (The King's Speech) and John Weiley (Antarctica). 'Strange Business' is intended as a companion guide for people engaged in the difficult work of creating memorable content.
