The fairest reporting of the News in Australia

The Australian does not need to tell us it is good or the most trusted but it concentrates on reporting and providing a great product. Mostly each report gives a balanced view and is reliable. Often alternate views are discussed or separately reported. It is conservative but recognises opinions differ. Unlike other agencies when it has an editorial it recognises and admits it. It is respectful and corrects mistakes. Opinions are labelled as opinions. It treats its readers with respect and does not preach to them but encourages debate and a
Search fir fact. While we all have diglfferent views the Australian supports our right to speak them. In a woke worjd this is a remarkably welcome approach. It would be great if it could go one step further and have a section where the average punter could have a say. In a way letters and comments allow that but often the
voice of the average citizen is not heard in our press. All it’s sections are presented professionally.

Comments section problem

The poor comments section has been well documented but let’s get specific. When a comment is made, the comment text box remains until you get out of comments and then get back in. Of course not being able to see your old comments is a shocker. Also, not seeing replies without deliberately selecting it is very cumbersome. For a new app, being able to see your old comment without scrolling through the entire list of other comments would be handy and welcomed but let’s get the basics right first. Also, the moderation is woeful. Even a complimentary post can be rejected because the moderator obviously doesn’t understand any nuance of the post. The comments by necessity, not to be rejected by the moderators have to be bland, vanilla, not thought provoking and boring. The moderators have certainly trained me to produce comments lacking any strength or insight. It is a shame because the comments are one of the great things about a digital edition of a paper. The very thing that differentiates the digital edition from the paper version is being destroyed by moderation which is in some cases simply ridiculous.

Travel problems.

I enjoy the Australian each day online using the app. The great advantage of this system of receiving daily news can work as well overseas apart from when unable to download due to lack of internet or brief internet availability. For example in Cuba one hour of poor internet access cost a CUC ($4.00 approx). To read later offline each headline had to be downloaded separately. At other destinations where internet is unavailable you cannot access back copies at a later date. On cruise liners for example internet is very expensive. Accessing the Australian in one hit would be preferable, rather than methodically downloading each article which occasionally has mysteriously not been saved for later reading. It looks like this problem has been discussed in other communication by different readers. Thanks.
