Smelling the strawberries from the Antipodes

Despite the fact that for two weeks of the year this ‘early to bed girl’ becomes a ‘night owl’, I love everything about wonderful Wimbledon. The fact that it is the ‘Gentlemen’s Singles’ or the
‘Ladies Doubles’ adds a frisson of elegance that not even the French can achieve. Oh, and the white playing gear...wonderful.
It’s only the end of week one and already I’m ferreting out the best deals on good champagne and the freshest strawberries for my late night Gentlemen’s finals feast.

Wimbledon App

I was delighted to hear I would be able to watch Wimbledon on the app (for free) since coming to stay in Perth, Australia. However, I’m gutted to find that there is non-stop chatter around the grounds with the public, and videos of players’ chat rather than matches. One female presenter said that it’s not just about the tennis but also about the visitors in the grounds - not so! It’s ALL about the tennis play! Try opening up the grounds to the public during remaining parts of the year when no competition is on, and we’ll see if that statement stands! I think it’s safe to say that people will not flock then. If there’s rain or gaps between matches, then by all means add numerous slots where chat is included with the public or the experts. But true tennis fans want to see the matches.
Bitterly disappointing!

Shame - Wimbledon & IBM wheelchair player discrimination

Astounded to see wheelchair athletes excluded the official Wimbledon app for player profiles, results & rankings?

You only get them if you search for the player you know. Even then, they’re wrong; able bodied players are all listed last name-first name but Dylan Alcott isn’t. Either they don’t know his name or they don’t care?

Able bodied players have full profiles provided, covering every possible item. You have to know the name of the wheelchair player, then search for them to get the profile, then it’s missing almost everything!

Able bodied players have all their Wimbledon match results listed - wheelchair players are excluded, only their latest result is listed.

Able bodied players have both actual ATP & statistical IBM rankings listed - wheelchair players are excluded. The ITF ranks all wheelchair chair athletes across all groups so there’s no excuse, and IBM also discriminates by excluding wheelchair athlete stats!

Such discrimination is UNACCEPTABLE! Wimbledon organisers should find a provider that doesn’t discriminate!!
