Publisher Description
With the heart of Stand By Me and the genius horror of Christine, MILE 81 is Stephen King unleashing his imagination as he drives past one of those road signs . . .
At Mile 81 on the Maine Turnpike is a boarded up rest stop, a place where high school kids drink and get into the kind of trouble high school kids have always gotten into. It's the place where Pete Simmons goes when his older brother heads off to the gravel pit to play 'paratroopers over the side'.
Pete, armed with only the magnifying glass he got for his tenth birthday, finds a discarded bottle of vodka in the boarded up burger shack and drinks enough to pass out. That's why he doesn't notice a freshly mud-spattered station wagon (which is strange because there hadn't been any rain in New England for over a week) which veers into the Mile 81 rest area, ignoring the sign that reads 'closed, no services'.
The driver's door opens but nobody gets out . . .

Mile 81
This book was typical Stephen King. I am a huge fan of Stephen King novels and this was the first short story I have read by this superb author. The action started right from the very first page and held my interest from beginning to end. I was left wanting more and if this was a movie it would leave me wondering when the sequel was coming out. Thank you Stephen King. You never fail to leave me satisfied and I happily recommend this book to all horror fans.
king!!

In The Tall Grass & Mile 81
Like anything Stephen King writes you are on the edge. You cannot put it down. Funny I read this on my i-Pad after a few goes at Words With Friends. King knows our shared experience. He is here with us and encapsulates our lives. This makes Stephen King so poignant. First page, first line of the first paragraph of the first Chapter, he's gotcha and he ain't letting go. He is to his craft what Robin Williams is to his, Elvis to his and any of the other greats are to their fields. I cannot wait till his next work every time I finish his latest one. He is the greatest. Read people, read.
