shocking

what, like one good song?

Masterish333

I personally found this unappetising. There were only a few songs i had heard, and even fewer that i liked. Not recommended for the money

Too broad in scope. A good attempt nonetheless.

00's Dance isn't really a genre. You can't really put Tiesto, Beyonce, Isolee & MIA under the same banner and expect a positive response from people (and I wouldn't have considered Beyonce or MIA dance at all), so you get useless reviews that claim "only one good song". The task of making this collection must have sucked, because it necessarily needs to ignore whole genres of awesome music & just cherry pick the stuff that sold.

I think there are some horrible tracks in here (personal opinion and very taste dependant), but I guess if you're going for an introduction to the music that popped up at every suburban nightclub over the last ten years, then it's a good intro. The "Next Steps" collection does seem to contain tracks from more credible underground artists in contrast to the quite mainstream "Basics" so I guess there's enough there for people to start digging further, but as a whole the collection only really skims the surface.

Having said that, the more I consider it the better I think it achieves its goal. You can't go very deep into any genre when you've been set "dance" as the task. I think some tracks could have been substituted for others (e.g. "In White Rooms" or "Body Language" instead of "Mandarine Girl", and maybe the Superchumbo remix of Get Ur Freak On), but I think the C2 mix of Falling Up is spot on, even if I do prefer the original.

tl;dr:

The collection achieves its purpose fairly well for my money, but is hampered by the broadness of its scope.

For people who are already familiar with their own preferred genre's of "dance" music, I'd steer clear of buying the whole collection & just cherry pick the songs you like if you don't have them yet.

For people who want to know where house music has moved in the past ten years, look through the "Next Steps" collection & grab a few names then search some more.

For people who know they're more into mainstream sounds then both "The Basics" and "Deep Cuts" have quite accessible tracks
including some by artists with a deeper catalogue should you like them.
