    • 1. "Brand New Love" by Sebadoh: "This was the soundtrack to much of my teenage angst. No one does simultaneously sensitive and grumpy like Lou Barlow."
    • 2. "That's That" by Cass McCombs: "I don’t know anything about this song other than that I heard it on Sirius and fell in love with it."
    • 3. "Song to the Siren" by This Mortal Coil: "One of the most moving pieces of music ever recorded. The kind of song that cults form around."
    • 4. "Draining a Lake" by El May: "Lara (El May) has played on my records and tours for many years and has just made her first solo record. Beautiful, tender, and lush."
    • 5. "Sleep" by Azure Ray: "I used to play this song on repeat on my iPod and walk around cities I didn’t know on tour. I’m less depressed these days."
    • 6. "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show: "OCMS took it upon themselves to complete a Bob Dylan song sketch . . . but dude . . . it worked!"
    • 8. "Aguas de Marco" by Cibo Matto: "Russell Simins and Miho Hatori performing the Jobim classic. I saw them do this at CBGB’s Gallery in 1996 and am still recovering from the charm attack."
    • 9. "Science Is Golden" by The Grates: "My favourite Australian band. Patience, the singer, is the next great frontwoman. See them live if you have the chance."
    • 10. "Walking On a Dream" by Empire of the Sun: "My friend Luke from Sleepy Jackson started this as a side project but it's slowly taking over the world."
    • 11. "AMMA What Now?" by J Mascis: "A devotional album from J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr. A whole other side of the alterna-legend."
    • 12. "Motel Blues" by Loudon Wainwright III: "I used to use this song in my meager attempts at seduction. The best lonely-guy-on-the-road song ever written."
    • 13. "Rain" by Bishop Allen: "I’m still in disbelief this wasn’t a pop hit last year. Striking the perfect balance between hopeful and melancholy."
    • 14. "The Goldheart Mountaintop Queen Directory" by Guided By Voices: "I always loved Guided By Voices. They have recorded so many classic songs, but this is my all-time favourite."
    • 15. "Once Around the Block" by Badly Drawn Boy: "This song grooves in a way that feels both natural and totally original. Badly Drawn Boy was really in the zone with this album."
